Racquet Network Box Leagues
|
Box leagues are ideal for people who like to play regularly. They are also also an excellent way to meet other players in our network. Racquet Network box leagues are open to men and women of all levels but they are most popular with competitive players who like to play frequently and keep score. Box leagues are not recommended for beginners. Beginners should start out in round-robins and then move to our ladder and/or box leagues once they understand the rules. High Participation Rates Racquet Network's play-or-die box leagues are unique. Our active leagues have monthly participation rates of well over 90 percent. The reason for this is simple. Players must pay a fee to join our box leagues. If they fail to play, they are eliminated and must repay before they can rejoin. This small financial incentive is enough to ensure a consistently high participation rate. Box League Structure The structure of our box leagues ensures that all players eventually arrive in a box with other players who are approximately their equal in skill and fitness. All new players enter through the bottom box. Therefore it is possible to run into top level players even in the lowest boxes. In most cases, however, the level of play increases as players move toward the top boxes. How to Join Only Racquet Network members may join our box leagues. Players must also be registered on the appropriate challenge ladder before they can join a box league. New players enter at the lowest open position on the first day of the month. No player may enter a box league on a day other than the first day of a month. Please contact our Executive Director, Brent Johner, at brentjohner@racquetnetwork.com if you want to join a box league. |
How Does it Work? There are three players in each box. Each player must play every other player in their box before the end of the month. Points are awarded based the results of each match.
At the end of each month, the player with the most points in each box moves up one box. The player with the fewest points moves down one box. The middle player remains in the same box. Over time, the boxes sort themselves and all players end up in boxes with other players who are at their skill level. Regular Box Leagues Racquet Network currently offers box leagues for tennis, squash, badminton, racquetball and table tennis. Please see the BLUE menu above for links to box leagues in your area. Special Box Leagues Racquet Network can run box leagues for Host Clubs in our network. Please contact Brent Johnerat brentjohner@racquetnetwork.com if you want to create a special box league for your club or facility. |
