Racquet Network sponsors several racquet sports tournaments every year in Calgary. They are all great opportunities for players to get together, play some games and then go out for a little celebration. Racquet Network provides the trophies, the staff and the prizes. The value of the prizes always exceeds the prize budget. Each Racquet Network tournament also follows the same format with respect to prizes. Rather than giving the best prize to the best player, we award prizes by lottery. So it is always possible for the worst player to end up with the best prize. All players need to do to win a prize is attend the wrap-up party where prizes are awarded to all participants. Although this is primarily a social event for our players, a winner will be crowned and that person will be declared tournament champion for this year. STEP 3 - LEARN TO SERVE tennis lessons. Join us Monday and Friday evenings this summer (2013) and learn how to serve for tennis. This recreational tennis lessons program for adults is open to beginners who want to learn how to serve successfully and consistently in tennis. Participants will be taught a basic first and second serve by a certified tennis pro. Those who are ready will also be taught spin serves and kick serves. Participants who attend regularly and follow the advice of the tennis pro should expect significant improvement by the end of this tennis lessons program. Adult Team Squash introduces adults to competition in squash. Players who participate in this league are learning to play competitive squash so that they can move on to competitive leagues and tournaments in the future. Join us Thursday evenings for Adult Team Squash. Each team consists of three men and three women, one of whom is the Team Captain. Each week the Team Captain chooses two men and two women from the list of available players to represent their team. Each chosen player then plays six games over 60-90 minutes while the remaining players referee. After the match, all players and referees go out together for "beer and wings." Although nobody is required to actually drink alcohol, attending the post-match social is a great way to meet other squash players and strengthen social connections to the squash community within Racquet Network. STEP 1 - TENNIS FOR ADULT BEGINNERS was launched in Calgary in 2005. Since then, we have taught more than 200 adult tennis players the basics and helped them move on to STEP 2 - LEARN TO RALLY. Tennis for Adult Beginners starts at the beginning. Players in this program are taught how to hold a tennis racquet, how to hit a tennis ball and how to move around the court.
