Babolat ™ Pure Strike Tennis Racquet
The Brand
Babolat is a French company that has been around since 1875, when Pierre Babolat created the first strings made of natural gut. In 1994, Babolat expanded beyond strings to become a total racquet sports company whose products are used by professional players in a variety of racquet sports.
Our Series Description
Babolat offers four different racquet series of tennis racquets. The Pure Aero series emphasizes spin. The Pure Strike series emphasizes control. The Pure Drive series emphasizes power. And the Drive series emphasizes cost effectiveness.
Everything in the Pure Strike series of tennis racquets is geared toward maintaining control over the ball. This is reflected in the shapes of the beams, the positioning of the grommets, the movements of the strings, and other details.
The Pure Strike series consists of eight different racquets of varying weights and sizes.
The Pure Strike VS and the Pure Strike VS Tour are for tournament players at the advanced and elite levels.
The Pure Strike comes in two different stringing patterns: 16×19, for most players, and 18×20 for players with elite-level swing speeds.
The Pure Strike 100 and the Pure Strike Team are all-purpose racquets suitable for adult recreational use while the Pure Strike Lite is intended for juniors.
There are no specifically doubles-racquets in the Pure Strike series. However, both the 100 and the Team can be strung for doubles.

Planned Obsolescence
“Planned obsolescence, or built-in obsolescence, in industrial design and economics is a policy of planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life, so that it becomes obsolete (i.e., unfashionable, or no longer functional) after a certain period of time. The rationale behind this strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as “shortening the replacement cycle”).” [Wikipedia]
Virtually all racquet brands these days have a plan to make new racquets obsolete long before they even come out. Since planned obsolescence is built into racquets, we believe that customers have a right to know when the racquet that they are buying is expected to become obsolete.
Some brands plan to make their new racquets obsolete less than two years after they are released. Racquet Network considers this irresponsible. While we cannot force the racquet sports industry to do away with planned obsolescence, we can refuse to offer brands with the shortest cycles. For example, Racquet Network does not sell some very major brands precisely because they make new racquets obsolete in two years or less.
Babolat’s product cycle for premium tennis racquets is typically 30-36 months. However, in some circumstances the changes from one model to another may be entirely cosmetic. When this happens, obsolescence may be pushed off for an additional three years. This means that the product cycle for some Babolat premium racquets is effectively 2.5 to 6 years. As far as we know, this is the best of all of the major tennis brands.
Pure Strike Release Date: SEPT 2019
Expected to be Obsolete: JUN 2022 (or possibly SEP 2025)
How to String this Racquet
Tennis racquets under 300 grams, like the Pure Strike Lite, should not be strung with polyester strings. Our advice is to choose a multifilament, gut or synthetic gut for this racquet. For more specific advice, please consult with an expert racquet technician in our southwest Calgary store.
