Our Description
The Astrox 88S is one model in a new series of racquets designed to replace the now obsolete Votric series of Yonex badminton racquets. Like the old Voltric series, the Astrox series is head heavy and is engineered for players who play most of the game from the mid- to back court. The head heavy balance of this series allows these players to hit drives and smashes harder. It also allows them to hit the shuttle further than players who play mid-to-front court would need to.
Every racquet in the new Astrox series has been redesigned to deliver more power during smashes and more durability over the long term. The new graphite in this racquet makes the old graphite in the Voltric series obsolete. The rotational generator system and counterbalanced head also surpasses the engineering in the old Voltric series.

The popular doubles-concept racquets, ASTROX 88 S and ASTROX 88 D, were reintroduced in March 2021 with new innovations and materials crafted in for enhanced performance. ASTROX 88 S PRO and ASTROX 88 D PRO are designed to complement the evolving, faster style of doubles play, which requires even faster takebacks for continuous powerful attack shots. The release of the PRO was accompanied by affordable models ASTROX 88S/D TOUR and GAME, designed and crafted with the same performance concept.
New advancements are made through the introduction of the VOLUME CUT RESIN, a groundbreaking resin that provides powerful adhesion with less material and weight. This resin is highly versatile in that it can increase durability and strength or reduce weight without compromising strength.
The ASTROX series are distinguished by the Rotational Generator System, our intricate weight distribution technology designed with the counterbalance theory that allows head-heavy racquets to recover faster between shots. By employing the VOLUME CUT RESIN, the new 88 S/D models have a further refined Rotational Generator System where intricate weight distribution can be taken to the next level.
Improvements from the VOLUME CUT RESIN can also be seen in the frame and grommets. The frame structure is evolved with a larger sweet spot made possible by the strength-reinforced Isometric head shape. The grommets are improved with a new pattern that uses larger, strategically-placed grommets, a technology that allows more string movement at impact and ultimately increasing shuttle hold for assertive shot-making. The 88 S models, designed for front-court players, have longer shuttle hold for precise net control and the 88 D models, designed for back-court players, balance repulsion and shuttle hold for maximum power.
The ASTROX 88 S PRO and ASTROX 88 D PRO debuted on court in March by players such as men’s doubles world no.1 Kevin S. Sukamuljo and Marcus F. Gideon, and women’s doubles world no. 2 Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota*2.

Racquet Specifications
Colours
The Astrox 88s is currently available only in one colour style: emerald green. As with other Yonex frames, new colour options may be released. We will update this page when other colour options become available.
Flex
This is a stiff flex badminton racquet, which makes it suitable for players at the advanced to elite level. Most recreational players will find this frame too stiff to use effectively, especially on the corner-to-corner backhand clear. Players below advanced to elite level should consider more flexible racquets in the Astrox series.

Materials
The loop of this racquet consists of a mix of advanced materials that include high modulus graphite, Nanometric and Tungsten. The shaft consists of high modulus graphite and Namd.
Available Weights / Grip Sizes
This racquet is being manufactured in a range of weights and grip sizes. The 4U version weighs an average of 83 grams and is available in one grip size: G5. The heavier 3U version weighs an average of 88 grams and is available in grip size 4. Both options are being imported by Yonex Canada.
Stringing Advice
The heavier of these two racquets (3U4) should be strung in the 21-29 lb range. The lighter (4U4) should be strung in the 20-28 lbs range. Players who need advice about stringing this racquet should come into our store and consult with a stringing expert.
Racquet Technology
Astrox 88 New Frame Design and Racquet Length
Making the whole frame flexible allows the“ASTROX 88 S”to hold the shuttlecock for accurate control, while the“ASTROX 88 D” has more flex in the upper part of the frame transmitting maximum power to the shuttlecock to break through the opponents. In addition the overall length of the“88 S” is only 5mm longer, which enhances both accuracy and power while the“88 D” is 10 mm longer to provide powerful attacks.
Energy Boost Cap
The new shape of the energy boost cap allows the shaft to flex, which ensures the maximum effect of “Namd (more flex and faster kick-back graphite material)” and stabilizes the racquet face by preventing the shaft twisting, increasing control
Rotational Generator System
Yonex rotational generator system applies the counterbalance theory in Yonex racquets. Weight is distributed throughout the grip end, frame top and the joint for maximum control. This ensures a smooth and rapid transition to the next shot.
Yonex Nanometric
NANOMETRIC* improves the bonding strength between the carbon fibres enabling us to take racquet shaft construction to another level. By reducing the amount of carbon in the shaft to make it 60%* thinner than a conventional racquet whilst retaining stiffness, YONEX has created a revolutionary lightweight racquet with lightening head speed and control.
*NANOMETRIC is the new material which applies the NANOALLOYTM Technology of Toray Industries, Inc.
Yonex Namd
A world-first, new dimension graphite material, Namd, greatly improves the adhesion of the graphite fibers and resin by attaching nanomaterial directly to the graphite fiber.
In high performance racquets, it is common to combine nanomaterials with resin that connects graphite fibers, but in Yonex Namd, nanomaterials are directly adhered to the graphite fibers and resin is greatly increased. This major improvement in Yonex racquets produces a shaft that flexes and stores energy, delivering explosive force on impact with the shuttle.
Isometric Head Shape
Yonex’ square-shaped ISOMETRIC frame shape is designed to keep vertical strings at a similar length. This shape produces a larger sweet spot in all directions.
New Grommet Pattern
Yonex’ new single-pass grommet hole construction provides more grommet holes and fewer shared holes than other brands. This permits for a more high-performance stringing pattern.
Solid Feel Core
The built-in solid feel core in Yonex premium racquets reduces harmful miscellaneous vibration at impact. This technology, called “solid feel core” is a feature of all Yonex racquets manufactured in Japan.
Aero+Box Frame
Yonex frames are contoured differently on different parts of the loop. Some areas feature an aerodynamic shape to reduce air resistance. Other areas feature a box shape to provide strength and power. This combination offers a quick swing with a solid feel.
Built in T-Joint
Moulded deep into the layers of graphite where the frame connects with the shaft, the YONEX Built-in T-Joint creates a durable and high-strength one-piece frame that is torque-free.
Super Slim Shaft
This is the slimmest shaft ever produced by Yonex. It vastly reduces air resistance whilst providing maximum feel.
