How to Customize the Yonex Vcore 98

Yonex VCORE 98 Tennis Racquet Red Head - 305g

How to Customize the Yonex Vcore 98

Yonex’ Vcore 98 is an advanced to elite level tennis racquet intended for singles tennis players who serve hard and hit hard ground strokes. Everything about this racquet is designed for speed and power. So most of the players who are playing with this racquet are seeking to maximize power and spin on their serves, on their ground strokes, or on both.

In general, we do not advise using polyester strings in racquets that weigh less than 300 grams. So the string you choose will depend in part on the frame weight of your Vcore 98. For example, if you have the 305 gram version and you want to maximize spin with a textured string, you may want to choose one of the following:

If, however, you have the 285 gram version of this racquet, you will may want to choose one of these strings.

Or if you are stringing the 285 gram version of this racquet for lady or a junior, you may want to consider one of these lighter gauge strings.

Customers who need help selecting a string for their Vcore 98 should come into our store to talk to an expert. Those who cannot may want to use our online string selector.

Which Yonex Vcore Tennis Racquet is Best for Me?

Yonex VCORE 100 Tennis Racquet - Black - 280g - Whole Racquet

Which Yonex Vcore Tennis Racquet is Best for Me?

Yonex Vcore series of tennis racquets was created for players who like to hit with pace and spin.

Every bit of technology that goes into the Yonex Vcore series of tennis racquets is aimed at making these racquets swing faster and generate more power.

In the newest line, Yonex’ engineers have tweaked every possible feature. It is more aerodynamic than ever before. It has enhanced carbon materials that allow more dwell time. Plus, it has improved grommet placement to greater more ball pocketing.

These three features combine to create faster swing speeds which are capable of increasing overall ball spin.

Within the series, however, there are different kinds of racquets for different kinds of players.

The Vcore 95 is for elite singles players who drive balls through the court from the baseline. It is not for doubles players and it is not for beginners. With a tiny 95 square inch head, the Vcore 95 is for players at the 4.5+ level.

At 98 sqare inches, the Vcore 98 is slightly larger and slightly more forgiving. Primarily used by 4.0+ players, the Vcore 98 is also a singles racquet used by many tour pros and challenges.

The all-purpose racquet in this series is the Vcore 100. Like most 100 square inch tennis racquets, the Vcore 100 is suitable for singles and/or doubles and can be used by players all the way from intermediate to advanced/elite. In fact, if this frame is strung with the right string at the right tension, it can even be used by beginners.

All of the frames above come unstrung, meaning players who purchase them will be able to customized them exactly the way they want. The remaining two racquets in the Vcore series — the Vcore Feel and the Vcore Game — come pre-strung and are ready to use right off the shelf.

Both of these pre-strung racquets are 100 square inches, making them suitable for both singles and doubles at the beginner to intermediate level. At 250 grams (8.8 ounces), the Vcore Feel is aimed primarily at ladies and juniors while the Vcore Game (270 grams/9.5 ounces) is aimed primarily at rec-level adult men.

Frames, of course, are only half of the equation. How you string them matters equally as much as the frame you choose. So once you have decided which of these Yonex frames is the best fit for you, come and talk to us. We’ll make sure you string it your best advantage.

How to Customize the Astrox 88

A pair of Yonex Astrox 88D Badminton Racquets strung with BG80 Power.

About the Yonex Astrox 88

The Astrox 88 comes in two versions. The Astrox 88D and the Astrox 88S. The models are identical with one exception, the 88S is about a centimeter shorter than the 88D. This is because the 88S is designed for players who play mostly from mid-court to front court while the 88D is for players who play mid- to back-court. Given the marketing for this racquet, stringers should expect that the Astrox 88D will be used by smashers and drivers while the 88S will be used primarily for drops, lifts and clears.

How to String the Astrox 88D

If you are stringing for advanced to elite level men using feather shuttles, we recommend using one of these strings.

If you are stringing for rec level men using nylon shuttles, then we recommend selecting something from this group.

Nylon shuttles, of course, are much harder on strings than feather shuttles. So some men may break strings more often than they like using string from the group above. In that case, it may be advisable to switch to something more durable.

How to String the Astrox 88S

As this is a shorter racquet intended for front court usage, it is most likely to be used by shorter and lighter players (ladies, for example) than the 88D. Our advice, therefore, it to string it with thinner, less durable strings.

Our string suggestions for players using feather shuttles includes this group of string options…

Our string suggestions for players using nylon shuttles includes this group of string options ..

As always, these suggestions are just starting points. Players who are having particular issues are advised to come into the store and discuss options with our experts.

Best Tennis String for Children

Babolat Xcel Tennis String

We never recommend individual tennis string products nor do we rank them. We recommend string categories from which parents can pick a string that works best for their child.

The best overall tennis string category for children is 17 gauge soft strings, like multifilaments, synthetic guts and natural guts. All of the strings in this group are suitable for children who are not frequent string breakers.

Tennis Strings Recommended for Children

All tennis strings in this group are soft, powerful and playable. This is perfect combination for most children. However, some children — particularly boys — may swing a lot harder than usual and may find that they need to move up to thicker 16 gauge strings.
